-- Road trip to Mississippi for the Holidays
Having family live so far away is not fun at all. Do. Not. Recommend. But in our house, we make the best of what we can. One of the best parts about having family in far away places is traveling to new breweries on our road trips to them.
We decided to stay in Greenville, South Carolina after hearing such great things about it. I think we watched a show that mentioned it too, so after that we booked a hotel about 10 minutes from downtown. After a quick search of what breweries were closest, we took a Lyft to Liability Brewing Co. Nestled between a couple little restaurants and shops was a brick building with lots of outdoor seating, too bad it was December and freezing. Inside I immediately see brewing equipment, a giant stormtrooper holding a boom box mural, a life sized stormtrooper next to a Christmas tree, and more Star Wars art around the tap wall. We wonder to the bar as we take in our first South Carolina brewery. Flights here are interesting and served in a tin lunchbox. My flight of four was Do You Even Know Elle? (Belgian Christmas Ale), Feral Garden Gnome (Belgian Blonde), Mortal Wombat (IPA), and Ted Danzig on Nitro with Cinnamon Candy (Black Lager). I really enjoyed my flight and rated them all over 4.25 on Untappd. My favorite of my flight was the Ted Danzig because of the cinnamon. Austin picked this for me and I was so glad he did. We thought it tasted like cinnamon toast or gingerbread cookies and I couldn't get enough of it. In Austin's flight was Blueberry Basilisk (Light Lager with Basil and Blueberry), Stainless Steel Magnolias (Kolsch), How Do You Spell Boujee? (Fruited Sour), and Chase's Mom Has It Goin' On (Oatmeal Porter). His favorite of his flight was the Fruited Sour because it was refreshing, tangy, and tart. Before hopping in the Lyft to the next place, of course I had to put a KASH Collections sticker on their sticker wall.
Southernside Brewing Co was an absolute winter wonderland. Christmas trees, candy canes, pretty lights, and Santa's everywhere. I didn't look at the beer list long before seeing "Cash Rules" and immediately got it because of my small business. Cash Rules is a 4.9% ABV Cream Ale with vanilla and cereal notes. In my Untappd I said, "SC beers are so good. Love it." We watched some of the Sixers game as were sipped our beers when I got a notification from a friend saying, "Would it be weird if I crashed just for a quick one? I'm literally down the street and this is way too coincidental not to." We had been social media friends with Kayla for YEARS but never met when we were all in Delaware. We wandered to Pangaea Brewing Company, which was just across this small bridge to meet Kayla. The space was really cute. The beer was okay. We heard great things about their food, only to realize that they only sold pizza. If you didn't know, I'm not really a pizza gal. We stuck to beers while we chatted until ending the night at Southernside. After catching up with a new friend, our time in Greenville was over and our final trek to Mississippi would begin in the morning.
Our few days in Mississippi felt like a few hours. We took little baby Arlo (my nephew) to his first aquarium trip, where he fell asleep about 30 minutes into it. We celebrated Christmas with my mom's side of the family. We made TikToks. We lounged around the house. Just lots of family quality time. <3
Before we knew it, it was time to head back home. Knowing that I have a hard time leaving, we didn't do a big stay somewhere for the drive home. We decided to stop at Beacon Brewing Co. in LaGrange, Georgia before getting a hotel in South Carolina. I ordered Blackberry Lemon Thyme Sour and loved that I could taste all the flavors as noted. It was also a really pretty pink. Austin ordered a pint of BOM: Italian Pilsner. It was flavorful and light, refreshing, and easy to drink. We saw that late hop additions of saphir and hallertau mittlefruh were added and thought that was cool. We ordered a burger and tacos, which were delicious. If there wasn't so many breweries on the way to and from Mississippi, we would consider stopping here again.
The last notable place we stopped before we got home was Piecewise Coffee Co in Cayce, South Carolina. I ordered a chocolate chai with oat milk and swore it changed my life. It was exactly what I had been craving. You can see my full review on my Chai Reviews highlight on Instagram.
I wonder where we'll stop on our next road trip to Mississippi!
Cheers,
