Happy National Beer Day

Updated: Jun 9, 2022

Y'all know I love celebrating anything and everything. Let's raise a toast to the world's most consumed alcoholic beverage, beer. *clink* *sip* *gulp* According to National Today, "National Beer Day celebrates the day in 1933 that the Cullen-Harrison act was signed into law, reversing the prohibition on selling beer in the United States."

To celebrate National Beer Day, here's a few of our favorite experiences at breweries:

After our 2019 trip to Arizona, Austin and I went on our first official date to Evil Genius Beer Co. as we prepared for the Philadelphia Flower Show later that evening. As we exited the metro and walked up N. Front street, birthday party decorations were scattered all around and loud music filled the air. Soon we realized the brewery was celebrating their second birthday. How exciting! We managed to find a table to sit at and flirt until we had to make our way to the convention center to see some beautiful flower exhibitions. The most unique part of Evil Genius is the quirky names of their beers: Purple Monkey Dishwasher (chocolate peanut butter porter), Stacy's Mom (citra IPA), etc. One of my favorite beers there is I Love Lamp, a pineapple Hefeweizen.

During the summer of 2019, we traveled to the beautiful state of Hawaii. Of course I had to go see the van Gogh painting on display at the Honolulu Museum of Art. After a long morning of walking through the museum, we were craving an ice cold beer. Thus, we followed our noses and wandered into Waikiki Brewing Company. They happened to be brewing that day so the whole street smelled like hops emanating from the boiling wort. The beer options all looked fantastic, and we were quite parched, so we ordered flights. This was before I took notes on the beers we drank, but I do remember drinking sample of Jalapeno Mouth, a jalapeno amber ale.

Right before COVID-19 spread like wildfire in America, a group of us traveled to Charlton, Massachusetts. At the time, Tree House Brewing Company had multiple beers in the top ten of the Top Rated Beers in the United States by BeerAdvocate. This brewery was interesting because we we required to buy drink tickets as opposed to just walking in and buying a pint at the bar. I assume this is due to the shear volume of customers this aesthetically unique brewery attracts. One of our favorite parts of this trip was an impromptu drive to Portland, Maine. We spent majority of the day on Industrial Way, the street with Allagash Brewing Company and Foundation Brewing Company. Two breweries on one street? YES PLEASE! Inside Allagash, we went on one of the best brewery tours I have experienced to date. At every stop, we got to sample a new beer. We even got to try an experimental rosé beer. We had so much fun learning the history of one of our favorite breweries while enjoying their product. We wandered to Foundation next, which had good beer and tons of games for customers. We decided to play Bananagrams.

It was fun reminiscing on a few of our fondest memories from our brewery experiences. I'm thrilled to still be able to share some of these stories that were not necessarily long enough for their own post. I hope you enjoyed this mini compilation of our favorite beer memories, and I encourage you to go make your own. The breweries mentioned here will NOT disappoint!

Cheers

Austin + Kass
