Bonesaw Brewing Co. was our first New Jersey brewery and brewery 89 overall. We walked passed the production area and to the counter to order a flight, my usual, and a pint, Austin's usual. I ordered: Queensicle, Dèmon Citron, Feuchfrohlich, and Swoosh. Queensicle is a 4.7% ABV orange-vanilla cream ale rimmed with sugar, and smells like orange crème more than it tastes. I would drink this beer all summer long and highly recommend it. Solid 5/5. I think Dèmon Citron, a Belgian style wheat beer, could be a beer to recommend someone who doesn't like beer because it doesn't taste like beer, and is super light and refreshing. I ordered Feuchtfrohlich, an altbier, because we'd never had this style of beer before. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to taste, and I'd say the notes match it well. According to the menu description, "Similar to its cousin Kolsch from Cologne, altbier uses a hybrid of ale and yeast brewing... [and] is darker copper in color with fruity, berry-like esters, but finishes crisp and with a clean bitterness." The last of this flight is Swooch, a 7.1% ABV juicy IPA. Overall, a standard IPA. I enjoyed it. Austin's pint of Shwheat Deal is an 8.2% ABV galaxy single hop wheat IPA, which Austin said, "more hoppy than wheat but I'm not complaining."
Next up, Austin ordered a pint of Shore Town, a Helles lager, and he said, "This Helles is hella good." Because I enjoyed Queensicle so much, I wanted a flight consisting of ales. I ordered Silver Queen, Black and Tan, Irish Queen, and Peaches 'N Queen. Silver Queen, a cream ale, was okay; I rate 3/5. I don't think it had much flavor, probably because the rest of the beers were really powerful in flavor. Next, I sipped Peaches 'N Queen because of the irresistible sugar rim. This and Queensicle were my favorite beers of the day. Austin said Peaches 'N Queen "seems like the bad b*tch beer." Black and Tan and Irish Queen both were coffee flavored. Black and Tan is a cream ale with a splash of their cold brew coffee. Irish Queen is an Irish cream ale brewed with milk sugar, the house cold brew, and whiskey flavoring. Of the two, Black and Tan was my favorite because it literally tastes like coffee.
I was reading about the brewery, because I like to research the breweries we drink at for The Blog, and one of the founder's story is similar to how I hope mine and Austin's ends up. Long story short, Dr. Rich DiVerniero attended medical school (like Austin) while brewing beer and later was able to open a brewery with the help of family and friends.
We can't wait to bring our friends and family to this brewery. We really enjoyed our time here. We only wish they had a kitchen, but you can bring your own food or get it delivered.
Cheers,
